Transformer cake

My boy LOVES Transformers!! He has almost all of them and plays with them all the time. He asked for a Transformer party for his 8th birthday. But he didn't want a character cake. He wanted me to make his cake out of fondant. I was excited because I haven't made too many fondant cakes. I really wanted to try some new things.

The finished cake with all his Transformers around it....

So, here's how I made it:

I made a chocolate sheet cake with cream cheese frosting. I covered it with white fondant. I wasn't too excited about making the fondant because it is a pain in the butt to make. I was searching google trying to find a new recipe when I saw how to make it with my KitchenAid. I decided to give it a try. I will never make fondant any other way again!! It was SO easy and turned out really good. It was easy to work with and I was actually having fun with it!

Chase really wanted it to look like they were fighting on Cybertron so I had to figure that one out. Micheal's has started to carry more cake decorating stuff so I went to see what I could find. They had edible rocks and dirt (crushed cookies and cream) and they were perfect! I covered it with both and added the cube in the middle (as though they were fighting over the cube). I made the cube out of rice krispie treats and covered it with gray fondant. I found a bunch of small Transformers on sale and they were just the right size for the cake. I put 4 Autobots and 3 Decepticons on it with Optimus Prime and Megatron in the front. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. More importantly, Chase loved it and that's what matters most.

Buzz Lightyear

My little boy is in LOVE with Buzz Lightyear! He has been wanting this cake for so long. I finally found the cake pan a few months ago and had to get it for him. He was so excited for his birthday.

I was kind of bugged that his helmet looks blue. It was the perfect shade of purple, but for some reason it looks blue in the pictures.

My happy birthday boy.

Airplane Cake

It's been a while since I've been able to make a cake, and I really enjoyed making this one. I have made the airplane cake before, but I didn't put it on a runway. So it was fun to make two different cakes. I made this for my nephew, Ethan, and his dad told me what design he wanted....hopefully, I did it right!

I put Ethan's name as the tail number (they all start with N).

This was the first time I put "grass" on a cake, and it was fun to do.

The cute birthday boy!! He loved his cake and that always makes it worth it! Happy Birthday, Ethan!!

Elmo!!

This year for my baby's 2nd birthday, I made her an Elmo cake. I love this cake pan! It has always been one of my favorites. Not only is it easy to make, but who doesn't love Elmo?? Well, my little girl does, so I decided it was the perfect cake for her.

Okay, so this cake is supposed to be easy, right? Wrong! My frosting (homemade cream cheese) would not thicken up! It was literally dripping down the cake. That has NEVER happened before! I was so frustrated but there was nothing I could do besides make more frosting. Of course, I was making the cake a few hours before the party and that just wasn't an option! So I decided to make the best of it. In the end, I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Batman

My son asked me to make a Batman cake for his 5th birthday. I had bought a pan on Ebay, but it was a vintage Batman and it didn't look anything like Batman today. So, I had to modify it the best I could using the decorations for his party. He really liked it, so I guess it turned out okay. It was fun to make a new cake....haven't done many of those lately!! Happy Birthday to my sweet little boy!!

Complete with the Batman candle....
