Transformer cake

My boy LOVES Transformers!! He has almost all of them and plays with them all the time. He asked for a Transformer party for his 8th birthday. But he didn't want a character cake. He wanted me to make his cake out of fondant. I was excited because I haven't made too many fondant cakes. I really wanted to try some new things.

The finished cake with all his Transformers around it....

So, here's how I made it:

I made a chocolate sheet cake with cream cheese frosting. I covered it with white fondant. I wasn't too excited about making the fondant because it is a pain in the butt to make. I was searching google trying to find a new recipe when I saw how to make it with my KitchenAid. I decided to give it a try. I will never make fondant any other way again!! It was SO easy and turned out really good. It was easy to work with and I was actually having fun with it!

Chase really wanted it to look like they were fighting on Cybertron so I had to figure that one out. Micheal's has started to carry more cake decorating stuff so I went to see what I could find. They had edible rocks and dirt (crushed cookies and cream) and they were perfect! I covered it with both and added the cube in the middle (as though they were fighting over the cube). I made the cube out of rice krispie treats and covered it with gray fondant. I found a bunch of small Transformers on sale and they were just the right size for the cake. I put 4 Autobots and 3 Decepticons on it with Optimus Prime and Megatron in the front. I was pretty happy with how it turned out. More importantly, Chase loved it and that's what matters most.
